Other than the MS office suits there are other software like Tally and SPSS which cannot be fully replaced from the MBA syllabus. However the patented software like Tally and SPSS is also available for GNU/LINUX.
Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) is used by the management students for analysis using the statistical test of the hypothesis framed in the research they undertake, which is both descriptive as well as inferential. The report is generated based on the nature of tests selected and the same can be depicted through charts and graphs and there is no serious difference between the windows and GNU/Linux version of SPSS (both versions are patented software). Along with the availability of GNU/Linux version of SPSS (patented software), there is a free replacement to this software available which is known as PSPP (promoted by the FOSS community)
PSPP is a free software application for analysis of sampled data. It has a graphical user interface and conventional advanced command line interface. It is intended as a free replacement of the proprietary program SPSS. The most important of these exceptions are, that there are no “expiry bombs”; the copy of PSPP will not “expire” or deliberately stop working in the future. Neither are there any artificial limits on the number of cases or variables which you can use. There are no additional packages to purchase in order to get “advanced” functions; all functionality that PSPP currently supports is in the freely available version.
